Extra Devlog

Author of documentation: John Kim

I’m writing an extra devlog because I realized that there was something wrong with the way that the visuals came together. Opening up the can of worms I realized that many of the art assets that found its way into our game were generated by AI, which came to me in my shock. This wasn’t how I wanted the end product to be brought together and because of that revelation it casted a shade across the integrity of our visual assets. Thankfully my group was given one last chance to address this issue and I took the opportunity to start redoing a majority of the artwork.

Re-combing through the art used for this project, I had to switch roles from being the person in the back to the person whose roles are concerned with what people are going to see upfront. I streamlined various parts of the game visually, opting for a space background that is consistent throughout the entire game. That provided a foundation that isn’t so jarring to the player when they went from a background to a blank screen. Next I addressed the smaller assets to start building up toward changing the more important assets. I finished up by making major changes to the end screen and to some of the characters.

Overall, I’m grateful that my group and I were given a chance to address this issue and I checked through to see if I could cover as many assets as possible. I’m hoping that these changes will present our game in a better light now that there’s more work done on the characters and the setting.
